
OREGON APCO/NENA AWARDS CRITERIA
Local Awards:
Lifesaver Award: for Telecommunicator's efforts resulting in life saving, life reviving, or prevention of life threatening injury to a citizen or field unit, i.e., A EMD save, successful hostage negotiations, etc.
Stork Award: for Telecommunicator's who have delivered a baby through emergency medical dispatch pre-arrival instructions.
Impact Award: for any person(s) employed in the emergency telecommunications field whose actions and efforts have positively impacted the local 9-1-1 jurisdiction in a significant way.
9-1-1 Benefactor Award: for user, citizen, legislator, or other community member whose supportive actions have had a positive impact on emergency telecommunications functions, i.e., a facilitator in brining 9-1-1 to your community, a donor of in-kind services, property or money, a facilitator of donations, an active proponent of emergency telecommunications actions, etc.
Critical Incident Award: for telecommunications efforts which result in the successful handling of a major incident or combinations of incidents beyond the average or normal activity level, i.e., multi-agency haz-mat spill involving evacuation, multi-alarm fire, multi-jurisdiction involved vehicle pursuit, etc.
State Awards:
9-1-1 Benefactor Award
The 9-1-1 Benefactor Award recognizes any person not employed by the emergency telecommunications public sector whose supportive actions have made an extremely noteworthy contribution; thus positively impacting emergency telecommunications. Maximum of one (1) award/year.
Commitment to Excellence Award
The Commitment to Excellence Award recognizes a Telecommunicator who has demonstrated the commitment to the 911 Telecommunications Profession in the following manner: Demonstrates dedication to the profession through thorough, comprehensive knowledge and skills, continuing quality improvement, mentoring of co-workers and a substantial contribution to the overall improvement and successful operation of their center. The quality of service is consistent and without bias. Maximum of three (3) awards/year.
Commitment to Quality Award
The Commitment to Quality Award recognizes a Telecommunicator, group of Telecommunicator's, or an agency who has demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality and quality improvement in the following ways: Creative/Innovative approaches in/to the improvement of customer service polices/skills; promoting quality improvement techniques/reviews; promoting the Telecommunicator Code of Ethics; promoting innovative and creative approaches to training concepts designed to improve overall quality of service. Maximum of three (3) awards/year.
Critical Incident Award
The Critical Incident Award recognizes any individual, team, center or centers, who exemplify commitment to service above and beyond the call of duty through innovative/quick thinking, initiative, excellent use of knowledge and skills seldom drawn upon, calm and controlled presence of mind, extraordinary individual or team effort, which results in the successful handling of a major incident or combination of incidents reaching beyond the average or usual level of activity. Maximum of three (3) awards/year.
Impact Award
The Impact Award recognizes any person employed in the emergency telecommunications field who, by act or deed, makes an extremely noteworthy contribution; thus positively impacting the statewide 9-1-1 system in a significant way. Maximum of one (1) award/year.
Lifetime Achievement Award
This is Oregon APCO-NENA’s highest award, created to recognize a distinguished member of the chapter who has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of emergency communications in Oregon. Candidates are chapter members who have exhibited outstanding leadership within the Chapter and who have made significant contributions to emergency communications in Oregon and the Oregon APCO-NENA Chapter over his/her lifetime.
Supervisor of the Year Award
The Supervisor of the Year Award recognizes the Supervisor (non-union and non-PSAP Manager) whose efforts on behalf of the dispatch center demonstrate the highest level of commitment to its personnel and their excellence, professionalism and success. This individual will exemplify leadership, integrity, trustworthiness, dependability and forward thinking; coach and encourage the strengths and skills in each employee to assist in achieving each dispatcher’s personal best; demonstrate initiative and creativity in policies/procedures/new programs; enhance or improve the operation and morale of the center; promote the Telecommunicator Code of Ethics on a daily basis through example; build and maintain a positive rapport with co-workers and customers alike. Maximum of one (1) award/year.
Telecommunicator of the Year
The Telecommunicator of the Year Award recognizes a Telecommunicator who, by act or deed, makes an exceptionally noteworthy contribution; thus positively impacting the local
9-1-1 jurisdiction in a significant way. Maximum of one (1) award/year.
Trainer/Lead of the Year Award
The Trainer/Lead of the Year Award recognizes the non-management Dispatch Trainer, Training Team or Lead Dispatcher whose contributions are instrumental in the excellence and success of those working within the dispatch center. This individual or team will exemplify leadership, integrity, trustworthiness, dependability; promote the Telecommunicator Code of Ethics through study and example; mentor new employees with the commitment to their success; demonstrate initiative in continuous improvement and customer service; set a positive and forward thinking tone within the dispatch environment; use new and creative approaches to the ever-changing dynamics of the dispatch profession. Maximum of one (1) award/year.
